How it will supposedly be used.

Here’s how it looks
Reminds me of .mobi a bit, but different. Worth noting: The .Tel will NOT Allow numeric-only domains to be registered, and therefore will not conflict with any national or international telephone numbering plan.

***FS*** I think not allowing numeric registrations significantly hurts the validity of the space. Like a singles bar or gentleman’s club that doesn’t sell liquor.. it becomes a weird place. I say avoid it.

I thought they said originally .tel would be numeric only! each person could have their own page for their #.
Hi Frank,
I’ve written up a fairly extensive review of the pros and cons of investing in .mobi – I thought you might be interested:

Ugh. No numbers w/.tel?
Well; I suppose a quick killing is preferred…over a slow, drawn out death by a thousand cuts…
Jeff,
You really haven’t scratched the surface. Dot Mobis faces huge problems that relate to Brand Dilution and also the sychronisation of site’s database for online bookings and transactions. But of course all the points have made are valid.
When the crowd at Namepros wake up to reality, I think somebody with a colourful name is going to have to go into hiding.
What is the point of this TLD? Why not just use adamsmith.com for your VOIP? You can already do this through SRV records on the domain:
http://www.voip-info.org/wiki-DNS+SRV
There is also ENUM which works via the existing .arpa TLD:

.tel is a waste of TLD. POINTLESS!
