***FS*** This rhymes with the .london, .berlin proposals – Other city states would surely love to get their own unique pocket of the net too. Unfortunately it doesn’t work neatly for every locale because .LA (one of my favorite towns) is a CCTLD for the Country Laos in South-east Asia. Other city’s logical extensions are similarly unavailable.  Still it would help to spread the type-in effect by creating a logical geographic extension that people might naturally navigate to depending on where they are located.. Here’s to hoping these come to be one day.

I think you will find that the New TLD policy at ICANN will allow just about anything that can be seen to address a legitimate need without violating the Intellectual Property Rights of others.

I am not sure there is a big call for these extension, but I feel they will be allowed.

All strikes me, however, as a lot of introspective navel gazing, when the really big developments in the Industry are passing by almost completely unrecognised.

***FS*** Let them come.. the more new extensions that come and the more distractions / side shows that happen – the more valuable the .com extension becomes.
