Google Cancels Party During Ebay Live

Google Cancels Party During Ebay Live

SaharSahar was the first to point out the Google Checkout party during the Ebay LIVE event, designed to bleed visitors away from Ebay.

Ebay responded by pulling its Adwords Ads from Google.. Ebay has a pretty big wallet, so that’s gotta smart.

Goog It obviously hurt enough (image, wallet) that Google decided to cancel the party.  That’s too bad because I would have liked to attend it.  :)

Although I have never seen it confirmed – eBay has been rumored to be one of Google’s largest customers if not the largest.

“eBay’s ads showed up on Google 188.3 million times in March, according to comScore Networks, more than double the number run by Target, the No. 2 Google advertiser.”

    I think it’s a checkout versus paypal war… however consider this situation….

A billion dollar company spending billions to buy generic keywords to drive searches to it’s relevant landing page. They hate having to pay. They hate the party trick. Could they be the billion $ corporation that’s suddenly at a loss for words?

Ad Exchange Wars: eBay and Google vs. The Media Business

I said this earlier on my blog when talking about these events: At an early Traffic Rick asked Google the most key question “Why pay rent when you can own”

Now they will need to step up or the opportunity will be forever gone. But wait, there’s Amazon and they need those same words too.

Excellent point Owen. Words are how you make money both online and off and I believe Google controls more of them than anybody else.

I found an example where eBay is still buying Adwords on Google and posted it on my blog:
