"The future is here, it’s just not evenly distributed yet." So typically, if you find the people who are most adept at a technology they are going to be ahead of their time. They can do something today that one day everybody will do.
I read Tim O’Reilly’s interpretation of that William Gibson quote on a post at Domain State. That is exactly how I view domain registrants. In the future everyone will be a domain owner. They just don’t know it yet.

My parents are domain owners, but they don’t know it. Or, more accurately, don’t realize what that means – they just know that they have the email addresses they wanted and that my dad’s business has a very simple web page because everyone expects it to.
One day I’ll hand over control of the domains to them when everyone else understands, too. That day isn’t quite here yet. But I agree, it’s coming.
***FS*** Good stuff Chris.
Domains will be like real estate, or stocks. Maybe everyone won’t own a URL per se, but it will be hard not to somehow be involved with them. I’d say the first people who owned IBM or GE shares were in the same boat. Instead of computers or appliances; it’s market revenue and hits. Companies like Sedo Moniker and Fabulous are the future eBay’s of the domain world, it will be interesting to see.
I found your blog a week ago and have been enjoying the broad scope of the contents. Technique is good, but life and living is good too. Nice to see some balance.
You are not doing much to decrease my addiction to new domain names though
