Domain Name Auctions Based on Genre

Auctioneer_2First an auction of adult related domain names at Internext, then an auction for gambling related domain names at a casino affiliate convention

These are just the very, very early days folks. I see the day when there is a domain auction at every type of event, as well as one ‘BIG’ name auction at a CES type event or TRAFFIC Conference.  Then again,  maybe TRAFFIC will do their winter convention "at" CES in Las Vegas – wouldn’t that be something.  This industry is absolutely maturing.  Moniker is doing an outstanding job running with the auction concept.  I think Monte’s little company is going to become a very big clearing-house for domain names.

A smart company could buy Moniker, while it’s founder aggressively continues to lock-up the assorted auction venues and then roll up a large portfolio of generic domain names with type-in traffic; then just peel event specific names off the top of the deck at each new auction. Buyers are happy because they are buying real (good) names with type-in traffic. The auction venue serves to fairly value the names being sold (most of the time). I previously commented that I thought Moniker could have done 17million in sales at the October 2006 Traffic auction alone.  I could see them doing 100 million a year in auction sales fairly easily by holding medium sized auctions at the assorted venues mentioned here.  This industry is going to get so much bigger.

…  I just got a weird feeling like cresting the top of the track in the front-car of a roller-coaster.

Pretty sure Moniker’s already owned by Seevast – are you implying they’re not a smart company?

***FS*** Nope, I’m implying nobody’s ownership of a comany is forever :) I’m not familiar with Seavast’s capitalization but they may (or may not) be the best folks to take things to the next level.

Isn’t Moniker already owned by SeeVast/Kanoodle?
